1. President’s Remarks / General (Mike G)

No significant issues to report.  Fall field requests are being submitted.

2. Treasurer’s Report (John D)

Typical end of the season items were paid, including umpire fees and trophies.  The home run derby receipts and expenses are about completed, a very successful fundraiser.

The only significant bill still outstanding, yet to be received from the vendor, is for tournament uniforms.

We still have some snack shack receipts yet to be passed in to the Treasurer.

The League remains in sound financial shape.

3. Post Season Wrap Up

Great performance by our District Team.  Congratulations to Coaches Bob B, Matt E, and Vinnie R, to all the players, and to their parents.

Holden Major League Tournament (Coach John W) got to the semifinals.

Clinton / Burkett 10 and Under (Coach Rick M), Holden Minor League (Coach Jim S), and the Chelmsford 9s (Coach Joe C) all had solid experiences in their competitions.

This is probably the most post season teams Sterling has ever fielded.  Thanks to all the coaches and their assistants for devoting much of their summers to these activities.

4. Equipment Uniform Return Status (Bob B)

All Major League uniforms should be returned to Equipment Manager Bob B.  He can provide status at the next meeting.

5. Fall Baseball

Jim S will coach a Boylston team and Dave D will coach a Holden team.

Only 14 registrations received so far (August 8) versus 51 in total last year.  Due date is August 15, with registrations accepted in order of receipt.  Princeton registrations will be accepted as numbers permit.

John D will provide registration summary to Jim S and Dave D shortly after August 15.

[Since the Board Meeting we have been informed by Holden LL that 2007 LL Age 12s will not be allowed to play in the Holden Fall Ball league.  A number of 12s had been registered, and their registration checks will be returned.  As of mail received this past weekend, there are 16 Sterling kids LL Ages 8 through 11 registered.]

6. Annual Special Meeting

The Annual Special Meeting to select and seat the Board for the 2008 season will be held Monday, September 10, at 7:00 at First Church in Sterling.

This has been brought forward from the usual last Sunday in September to allow the new board to have responsibility for the fall registrations and the fall player evaluations.

John W will get out the appropriate notices.

7. Player Evaluations for the 2008 Season

Registrations / Signups for the fall player evaluations will be held Wednesday, September 12, at the Chocksett Cafeteria, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM..

The evaluations will be held at the West Sterling fields on Saturday, September 22, and Saturday, September 29.

John W will get out the appropriate notices.

8. Playground Project

The Sterling Recreation Department is still on track to put in the new playground this fall at the West Sterling AAA field.

It was moved, seconded, and voted by the Board that the Sterling Board of
Selectmen be requested to transfer the sum of $1500 from the George P Gibbs Trust Fund to the Sterling Recreation Department to assist in the financing of this project.

John D will make the appropriate communications with Town Hall.

9. Field Issues / Fall Projects

Dave D has the lock for the door on the shed.  Rick M will see that it is installed.

Rick M is planning to lay down new infield mix, with a finer grit than we had this past season, with a weed control.  He will also scope out the materials and labor requirements for establishing a formal warning track at the ML field.

Joe C will coordinate purchasing a used double width net for the ML batting cage and ensure that the cage is appropriately expanded to accommodate it..

Other fencing projects at the West Sterling Fields include providing fencing around the new playground, moving the AAA fence to allow moving the bleachers forward from the road, setting up a batting cage at the AAA field, and providing general repairs to the fences at both West Sterling fields.

Rick M and Joe C will provide an estimate from the fence contractor at the next Board meeting.

Respectfully Submitted,

John Dwyer
