President’s Report   (Mike Glavin)

Board President Mike Glavin reported that a District Meeting of LL Presidents was coming up.  Expect three major items of discussion –

Pitch Count Program - Sterling has a one year jump on it. The scorekeepers doing the books in both dugouts keep track, which has worked for us.
Safety Program – Updated program due every year.
Background Checks – Emphasis will be on looking beyond local / state infractions to ensure that we are aware of any out of state violations.

Treasurer’s Report   (John D)

John Dwyer reported little activity beyond deposits of fall registrations and payment for Fall Ball umpires.  Fall registrations (for Spring 2007) were 90+, down 20 or so from previous years.

To Do List   (Board)

  1. New Constitution – LL requires local constitution to be reviewed and approved by boards each year.  Mike G will review, propose any revisions, and present to the board.
  2. Managers’ Handbook – Primarily the responsibility of the President and League Directors, but all board members should review and offer suggestions for revision.  The handbook shows the league’s expectations for its players and coaches at each level and is useful reading.
  3. Code of Conduct Form – This is for board members in their conduct on the board.  Mike G will review the form and bring it to the board at a subsequent meeting.
  4. ASAP Safety Plan – Due from each league early in the spring, primarily a review and revision of the form submitted in previous years.  Mike G and Dave D
  5. Fields – Still a few things to be done at ML field – remaining signs to be put away and net to be taken down at batting cage.  Have some work on the new shed left.
  6. Training Plan and Schedule – Need to establish goals and set up a general plan and schedule – Vin R
  7. Equipment Purchases and Inventory – In general, we’re in pretty good shape, but some of the AAA catcher’s equipment is getting ragged, and also we should get some smaller equipment for the smaller kids at that level.  Still some ML shirts not yet returned.
  8. Tax Return – League has to submit a tax return every year as a nonprofit.  Todd Solar of Solar & Kilcoyne does so on pro bono basis.  John D to get him the numbers for the fiscal year just ended.
  9. Contact DPW to shut off water at W Sterling Field - This has already been done and the system is winterized.

Fall Baseball Recap

Developmental League   (Jim S and Joe C)

Both teams lost more than they won, but in general a positive experience and good for the players’ development.  Kids enjoyed playing under the lights in Clinton.  Most of the opposing teams had a relatively laid back, developmental approach.  Nice season ending party at the fields.  Jim S or Joe C will provide any appropriate feedback to the development league’s director.

Holden League   (Jan G and Rick M)

Both Sterling teams in the Holden League were overmatched.  The teams won a couple of games each, and ended up coming in 6th and 7th place out of 9 teams.  With that being said, the players still seemed to have a good time and enjoyed playing.  Positive feedback was also received from the parents.  The tougher competition and faster pitching will help prepare those players moving into the Major Leagues, and it certainly helped the current Major League players work on hitting against stronger pitching.

Evaluation Summary   (Jeff Pingeton)

Jeff thanked all of the board members who helped out with evaluations.  Overall the process went smooth, and Jeff presented the board with the results.  With this information in hand, the next subject was discussed.

Number of Major League Teams   (Board)

Based on the number of players for 2007, and the evaluation summary, the Board voted to move from four to five teams in the Major League.
